More About Us:

The Lyndhurst Community Presbyterian Church (LCPC) is a congregation of the Presbyterian Church (USA), a denomination founded on the principle of representative government under the word of God. Together with 53 other congregations in Northeast Ohio (the Greater Cleveland area), we constitute the Presbytery of the Western Reserve, a regional governing body of the denomination.

LCPC has two boards that are elected by the congregation: The Session and the Board of Deacons. The Session is the governing board of the church. It has constitutional authority to decide on all matters secular and ecclesiastical. The office of Deacon is first of all one of sympathy, witness and service. The duty of deacons is to minister to those who are in need, to the sick, to the friendless, and to any who may be in distress.

These officers are installed by the congregation. Before installation, they must be ordained as elders or deacons of the church. One-third of the members of the boards are elected every year.

With a congregation of over 400 members, LCPC is a thriving church with an exciting existence that finds expression in a multitude of ministries and social programs. We invite you to visit the pages of this Web site to get acquainted with who we are, and to browse through our classes of Small Groups.

Whether your interest is in mission or music; in Christian education or child-care; in a ministry of sympathy and compassion; or in getting together with fellow parishioners to enjoy a pot luck dinner, we are sure that you will find at LCPC the opportunity you are seeking.

Or, better yet, come and visit us, worship with us and be our guest, and enjoy a warm and loving reception. Yes, visit us and find out what we are all about!

HISTORY:
LCPC was founded in 1928 in what was then known as the Village of Lyndhurst. At that time there was no church in the Village, and Dr. George A. MacIntosh obtained permission to hold a church service in the Village Hall April 22. Forty-five persons attended this service, after which the group decided to form the Lyndhurst Community Church. The congregation thus launched would meet in the Village Hall for the next 12 years.

Sunday school classes were held for the first time May 6, 1928. Toward the end of our tenure in the Village Hall, the Sunday school had grown so large that classes were held in the jail and in the garage housing the fire engine.

After a few months of consultation, the church became affiliated with the Presbyterian denomination and on March 2, 1930, the name was changed to Lyndhurst Community Church (Presbyterian).

The gracefully-spired, white colonial building which houses the church today, was dedicated November 16, 1941, and about doubled in size and rededicated on November 17, 1957.

On September 24, 1950, Bloomfield Hall was dedicated. This is an activities center with rooms for meetings and Sunday school classes. Banquets, stage productions, concerts and other large programs are held here.

The Christian Education wing was dedicated April 16, 1967. This is a two-story, eleven-room facility which now houses the Childhood Enrichment Center and adult and children Sunday school classes. Since then, modernization and improvements of the church facilities have continued.

Again, we invite you to be our guest one of these Sundays, worship with us, and have a cup of coffee and a doughnut with us.
